How to care for your shoes

You can easily extend the life of your children's shoes and boots with regular maintenance and care. Children's shoes are often subject to a significant amount of wear and tear as little adventurers explore the world around them. Below you'll find our complete guide to the care and maintenance of your children's shoes.

Leather product care
To prevent water, dirt and grime from penetrating the smooth leather, shoes should be impregnated 1-2 times before use. Likewise, waterproofing should be applied regularly during use. As leather is a natural material, it can be beneficial to apply leather grease to the shoe from time to time. Leather grease provides care and moisture to the leather and a beautiful shine to the shoe.

How to:
1. Start by gently wiping the shoe with a slightly damp cloth or sponge, then let the leather dry at room temperature.
2. When the shoe is dry, massage the leather grease in circular motions with a cotton cloth. Leather grease provides care and moisture to the leather. If the shoe is partially discolored, you can dab shoe polish of the same color on the spots. Then let the shoe dry.
3. When the shoe is dry, finish with a layer of protective impregnation.
4. If the shoes have become wet, it is important that they are allowed to dry before next use. However, never leave the shoes on a radiator or in a heating cabinet, as this can dry out the leather.

Product care of natural rubber
Bundgaard's rubber boots are all made of natural rubber, which makes the shoe softer and better follows the foot's movements. We recommend that you regularly care for your rubber boots with care product or oil.

Here's how:
1. Remove dirt and grime with a wet cloth or sponge. If the rubber boot is very dirty, it can be cleaned under the tap with soap and water. Wipe the water off the rubber boot or let it dry at room temperature.
2. Once the shoe is dry, apply a care product specific for natural rubber or alternatively a flavorless oil from the kitchen drawer. Then let the rubber boots dry at room temperature.
3. Excess oil can then be wiped off.
If the rubber boots have become wet on the inside, they should be air-dried without the use of external heat sources such as a radiator or heating cabinet. The insole should be removed and dried separately.

Bundgaard rubber boots should not be stored in direct sunlight for too long at a time, as this can damage the color of the boot. Instead, we recommend storing the rubber boots in a dark and cold place. With regular care and cleaning, the rubber boot will retain its suppleness and softness and reduce the risk of cracking and crazing.

Textile product care
To prevent water, dirt and debris from penetrating the textile material, the shoe should be impregnated 1-2 times before use. Impregnation should also be applied regularly during use.Regular cleaning of textile shoes can help extend the life of the shoe.

How to:
1. Start by brushing the shoe free of dirt with a dry, soft brush. If necessary, remove the shoelaces and wash them in soapy water. Velcro straps can be cleaned with an old dry toothbrush.
2. If the textile material is still dirty, clean the shoe and sole with a cloth or sponge soaked in soapy water. Then let the shoe dry at room temperature.
3. When the shoe is dry, finish with a layer of protective impregnation

If the shoes have become wet, it is important that they are allowed to dry before next use. However, never leave the shoes on a radiator or in a heating cabinet, as this can damage the material.

Suede product care
With the right care and cleaning, suede shoes can remain beautiful and durable. To prevent water, dirt and grime from penetrating the suede, the shoe should be impregnated 1-2 times before use. Impregnation should also be applied regularly during use. If the suede has become shiny and smooth, care and cleaning can restore the original appearance of the suede.

How to:
1. Start by gently wiping the shoe with a slightly damp cloth or sponge, then let the suede dry at room temperature.
2. If the suede has lost color or become worn, a care product in the right color can be applied. Then let the shoe dry.
3. When the shoe is dry, a suede brush can be used to scratch the leather to make the hairs stand up again and restore the original appearance.
4. When the shoe is dry, finish with a layer of protective impregnation.

If the shoes have become wet, it is important that they are allowed to dry before next use. However, never leave the shoes on a radiator or in a heating cabinet, as this can dry out the suede.
