Our materials and production
We care about children's feet, but are also careful to protect the world they grow up in. As a company, we make conscious choices in our production and continuously explore and implement new opportunities for responsible production.
All our products are produced in collaboration with carefully selected partners in Portugal and Asia, where each partner is specialized in producing the specific product group they produce for us.
All our partners have signed our Code of Conduct, which is based on internationally agreed conventions. Our commitment includes processes to prevent negative impacts on human and labor rights, the environment, including climate, anti-corruption and animal welfare. We use this Code of Conduct to support us in selecting and retaining business partners who share our commitment to responsible and sustainable production as defined by international standards and guidelines. You can read our Code of Conduct here.
Leather
Vegetable tanned leather and chrome-free leather are key components in our collections as they protect little feet from contact with heavy materials. In addition, we use biodegradable leather on several of our uppers. All leather used in our production is a by-product of the food industry and is carefully selected from tanneries that are members of the Leather Working Group (LWG), which also ensures that the selected leather has undergone a metal-free tanning process within the EU REACH standards.
As there are no chromium and heavy metals in our dyeing process, the colors can be more sensitive to light and therefore fade more easily. This is a natural process for leather dyed without heavy metals.
Wool
We only use 100% virgin and natural wool for lining, as this material has many qualities. Wool regulates temperature, makes the shoe soft, breathable and warm, and is also biodegradable. Our wool is sourced from partners close to our production, who respect animal welfare by shearing the animals before summer. We only use mulesing-free wool.
Natural rubber
Natural rubber is extracted from the sap of the rubber tree, making it a renewable resource without the need for synthetic manufacturing. A key advantage of natural rubber is that it can be used without the addition of harmful chemicals. This is especially important as rubber boots are often in contact with the skin. All our rubber boots are made from natural rubber, are PVC-free and completely free from harmful chemicals.
TPR
TPR stands for thermoplastic rubber, a type of material that combines the properties of plastic and rubber. We use TPR soles for many of our shoes, as the versatility, durability and flexibility of the material is crucial to the shoe's ability to be pliable and flexible. TPR is a recyclable material that leaves no residues from the production process and contains no harmful chemicals. At the same time, TPR is stable against temperature variations and therefore does not become rigid in the cold.
